Meme: And the last item I bought in Woolworths was ...
A DVD of Resident Evil. The label said "£4.00." The girl at the till charged me £1.20.

And then I walked out of Woolworths, one last time. At least I emerged a satisfied customer, and in the end, that's all any store can claim, right?

I mostly bought plimsolls (in four sizes), salt, and Lucozade, our local one having a particularly odd selection of things left. Before Christmas it was all ironing boards.

I have a receipt from Woolies' last day in Edinburgh that's as long as my arm, and paid £10.37 for the lot thanks to the 90% store-wide discount on top of any existing discounts.

There isn't a more depressing sight than the tillpersons working the hardest shift they've ever had to work, knowing it's their last day in a job, while their shop is slowly crumbling and being stripped of all furniture in front of their eyes.

Good film, and good value at that price! :-)

I'm flying back to the UK tomorrow and missed the sales. Are any stores still open? I would like to buy pic 'n' mix one last time!

No. The last ones closed their doors today.

There's one in Barbados - it was bought out by local management about 20 years ago. I think that's the closest you're going to get.

The one in Nicosia (Cyprus) may still be going too.

A box of Lindor chocolates for my girlfriend.

The last thing I got for myself would have been... I dunno. Cheap speakers over the summer.

Nothing else grabbed me, but I couldn't be there on closing day so DVDs and video games were only 20% off.

I was tempted by a Kate Nash cd for £2.50, but in the end all I bought was pepsi and a big bag of Skittles

I bought Hancock, Tales of Earthsea and Teeth for about £6/7.

It's a shame it's gone. I actually still used my local Woolworths quite regularly.
