We have a new toll-free voicepost number for the UK:

We'll update site docs and announce it soon, but I wanted to share this with you now!

FYI the number format is wrong and potentially confusing - 08082800740 is the number everyone needs to dial, so the brackets are unnecessary.

(Spacing is useful for ease of reading - 0808 280 0740 - but not essential.)

I seem to remember that although 0808 numbers are free on a BT landline, they're not necessarily free from other landline providers or mobiles.

According to BT...
93% of the UK recognise this number as a free call*

How much do calls to 08 numbers cost?

The cost of calls to these numbers are regulated for BT customers. Other providers’ charges are not regulated and may therefore vary so you should speak to your service provider for more information or advice.

Maximum rates for BT customers are listed below.

* 0800 and 0808 Freephone, free of charge for BT customers

Well that answers that, I just tried it.

"Access to the number you have dialled is not free from mobile 'phones. Please redial without the first zero."

I will say this as I did on the announcement.

This is fixing a years old problem. It is not a 'new feature' as it is advertised on said announcement.

Also, why did you make it a freephone number? You've complicated things for people who want to post via their mobile. I'm not paying 20p a minute from my mobile, kthx.

Should've done what you did before. Made it a normal number that most people (who are savvy) have free 01 calls on evenings/weekends, and it would come under allocated minutes.

Same bloody issue! Cuts off after a minute! THIS IS NOT NEW.
