You'd kinda think that the folks behind Livejournal would give some notice if they thought something was majorly wrong?

Well, No. I wouldn't as I cast my mind back about eight years and remember a similar implosion concerning the then popular, initially free Open Diary. But that's a whole other saga.

Nice hat. Very reminiscent of Mary Quant. :-)

Interesting and alternative way of handling the 'news'. I'm already reminiscing about LJ's early balmy days when the whole site was a lot tighter and generally much wittier and could only be joined by a special invite and code from a current member. All rather elitist [Though Free and no advertising] but general content seemed snappier and wittier. I've thought LJ a mite saggy with communities of late.

Companies which are going messily broke do not make this fact public until they have to. It would stop new customers signing up and delaying the company's death.

Not saying LJ is going broke (I have no idea), just pointing out that under some circumstances (not just those posited) they would be the last person you should expect to announce that there were problems.
